I am in the market for tuning software. I need it for basic "tightening up" as well as the extreme "T-pain" style of vocal fx for Pop.
I'm sure I would be happy with either Melodyne, AutoTune or Waves Tune. But, I would love to get some advice from some other users. I have checked out many if the "shoot outs" online and I haven't been able to come to a solid conclusion.
I currently use Logic's "Pitch Correction" plug and it's OK...not great. But it doesn't have the midi control. And I haven't used AutoTune since my OS9 days.
Any input is welcome (except "holy war" rants against the technology)
I have owned all three you mentioned "Melodyne, AutoTune or Waves Tune" and have virtually no opinion. How is that for pathetic?
I track so few humans that I don't need it that much. I did like the Waves interface and the Melodyne has that kick ass thing where you can separate individual notes parts from chords. Haven't used that part of it yet, but the demo is awesome.
ahh. Direct Note Access is what the melodyne people are call it.
It was suppose to be out last year as an update to the melodyne plugin. Looks like they bailed on that and are making it a seperate app due this spring (that would be now I guess).
I've always thought the sound quality of Melodyne was superior to Auto Tune. I also like the interface better. Much easier to use, much more intuitive. I've only used the lite version of Waves Tune so I can't really comment on it's functionality. I like Melodyne because the company is dedicated to pitch/tune manipulation/correction as opposed to Waves who try to do everything. Also, I'm pretty unhappy with Waves as a company due to their WUP. (I recently ditched all my Waves plug ins for McDsp.)
Also, It is my understanding that the Melodyne plug-in dos NOT have midi control. While the AutoTune Plug DOES. If you want that control with Melodyne, you need to step up to the more expensive "Studio".
Hey Glen, just curious. What "Waves company philosophy" are you referring to? I have enjoyed their plugins over the years but I think I will go a different route on my next home studio update.
I think Glen's referring to the "Waves Upgrade Plan" aka the Wave's ownership tax. As well as their individual plug-in pricing that really forces you into one of their bundles.
I was fortunate enough to purchase a "serial dongle" that was keyed with TDM Gold back in the OS9 days for a song (when my former employer was liquidating assets).
I certainly would not have purchased that at full price. If I were starting from scratch, I would be looking elsewhere.
